What Can You Bet on Boxing?
The world of boxing supports multiple bets as there are many markets available in both traditional betting on a fight, as well as long odds and, of course, live betting. Here are the most common boxing bets.
Winner of the Fight
The most classic bet in the world of boxing is, logically, who the winner of the fight is. In most cases, bookmakers only offer two possible outcomes, the victory of each of the two fighters, and if there is a technical draw the bet is considered void; however, there are also some cases in which bookmakers offer the possibility of guessing if there will be a technical draw, so in those cases, there are three possible outcomes.
How a boxer will win a fight is another common market offered by bookmakers. The possibilities are winner by knockout, technical knockout, disqualification, decision or technical decision and depending on the possibilities the odds will be higher or lower. If all five possibilities are offered, the odds will be high; if two groups are offered, the odds will be lower.
How Long the Fight will Last
This is a bet that involves guessing which round the fight will end in. It doesn’t matter which way the victory is achieved or which of the two fighters will win: you just have to guess how many rounds will be fought. This market is offered individually, i.e. whether the fight will last 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 rounds, etc. or by groups of rounds: 1 to 3, 4 to 6, 7 to 9 or 10 to 12.
More or Less Rounds
As with football, tennis, golf or many other sports, bookies have a lot of information that they use to prepare statistics for each fight. With these statistics they draw a line on how long they think a fight will last and you can bet on whether the fight will last more or less rounds than the line drawn by the bookmaker.
Knock Down Your Opponent
This is a good bet and, although the odds are usually not very high, we can use it to establish winning strategies. It’s all about guessing whether a fighter will knock his opponent to the canvas and the referee will have to start with the count of ten. It doesn’t matter who wins the fight, only whether the referee has to start the count of ten or not.
This market is offered in two ways. Firstly, you can bet on whether one of the two fighters will knock their opponent to the canvas in a fight, so if you bet on yes, you will be correct if either fighter knocks their opponent down. The second option is to bet on whether one of them will knock their opponent down: here we only bet on one of them, Fighter A or Fighter B, so the odds are reduced and at the same time the odds go up.
